African Lullabies (special edition + bonus CD)
World Music Network
The music is a very important part of African culture and plays an essential role in the daily life of the inhabitants of the continent. In this new collection of Rough Guides series, you can discover a small but fascinating part of African music: that of lullabies. This anthology contains some of the biggest names in African music, and you can be lulled by the captivating voices of Ladysmith Black Mambazo as well as by the sweet sounds of the mbira and kora. As a bonus CD of the album is proposed Virginia Mukwesha "Mataré: The Power Of Mbira". The mbira is an ancient central tool in the Shona culture of Zimbabwe. It is used in traditional ceremonies of the family, but also to have fun, dance and relax. In "Mataré," Virginia Mukwesha proposes a kind of long instrumental suite based on traditional melodies. Five overlapping and interrelated themes are played on seven different mbira, creating about 35 thematic variations. Played without any amplification or alteration, the sound of the mbira Mataré is deliberately gentle and relaxing.
Music is an intrinsic part of life in Africa, and from the earliest age, the lullaby is used to sooth and calm children into quiet time and sleep. Featuring some of the biggest names in African music, let the peaceful voices of Ladysmith Black Mambazo and soothing sounds of the mbira and kora gently lull your baby to sleep.
