Raffaello Pareti is a non typical jazz artist in the Italian world of jazz, an artist with his own rhythms and timings at the center of his productions.
The feeling one gets from this project is of great freedom in the composition, freedom that is easily understood in every fragment of this splendid body of work. The line up includes Francesco Bearzatti who was nominated as Best European Musician 2011 by the Acadèmie du Jazz Francais, Mauro “Otto” Ottolini and his trombone so unique and identifiable, Walter Paoli on the drums.

Raffaello Pareti is a nontypical jazz artist in the Italian world of jazz, an artist with his own rhythms and timings at the center of his productions.
The feeling one gets from this project is of great freedom in the composition, freedom that is easily understood in every fragment of this splendid body of work. Every piece emphasizes diversity and makes a treasure of it allowing space for fine and lucid composing. One thing is for certain, there is great understanding amongst all the artists that have worked on this project, a deep feeling of trust and respect that comes across in every piece, from Francesco Bearzatti who was nominated as Best European Musician 2011 by the Acadèmie du Jazz Francais to Mauro “Otto” Ottolini and his trombone so unique and identifiable, to Walter Paoli on the drums, not just a great bunch of musicians but also a great bunch of friends who through time and experience have always placed music and the joy of performing at the top of their list.
The CD kicks off with Pentalife, a piece based on the pentatonic scale and moves onto Diavoletti Ingegnosi, in this are small thematic fragments that bounce from one instrument to the other in a continuous game of back and forth alternation, the role and parts reversal characterize the improvised part that develops around the Campo Bb, Raffaello wrote this piece thinking of his nephews and the dinamics that children place in act when playing and how the energy that they give off is equal to the one given off by a thousand little devils, irreverent and ingenious. Agghiornò originally intended for the tenor horn, was then given to the trombone and The scary Millenium who’s dominating theme is fear brings to light a society who is run by fear and confusion for what is to come. Marameo is an easy track that feels like an unpretentious dance hall filled with good times, the perfect piece to lead us to De profundis per il ceto medio that delivers a strong message, one that cannot be ignored in a world where the disappearance of the middle class is a current fenomenon, the landslide that confirms the reabsorption of the middle class into the lower income belt and therefore poverty is not simply due to lack of buying power, it embodies a risk for democracy as it pre-announces the disappearance of social mobility. The roar at the door has been extrapolated from the poem “Years” by Sylvia Plath and it is thanks to the verse “Is it the tiger this year, this roar at the door?” that the CD takes on it’s title. Mari Ermi is a result of what was left inside the artist once he had travelled by foot on the road that connects the Center of Putzu Idu to the beach of Mari Ermi on the coast of Sardegna, it was the memory of that day, the light, the fragrance of the mediterranian that provided the melody for this stunning piece and finally Poggibonsi state of mind, the last piece on this CD dedicated to a small town in the province of Siena (so small and yet so big) just like New York!
