The MARCHESANO / GIACHINO Duo, was born with the idea of building an original repertoire of entirely written music, making the most of the tonal possibilities of the two instruments available: double bass and piano. After initial rehearsals with very intricate parts, the musicians needed to leave more space to jazz improvisation, a common background, smoothing out the initial structural rigidity. The sound became more fluid and it was an almost natural consequence to think of water (in Japanese Mizu) as the main theme of the entire album. Although they both love to explore the possibilities offered by electronics applied to their instrument, for this recording the two artists decided on a strictly acoustic approach. Stylistically, no limits have been set, alternating wide melodies played with the bowed double bass with more jazzy parts, a music in which the passions of both naturally converge.

What probably unites two apparently distant musicians like FEDERICO MARCHESANO and FABIO GIACHINO is restlessness. GIACHINO easily moves in typically jazz contexts, as evidenced by the frequent collaborations with Flavio Boltro and Furio di Castri, and immediately after in the electronic sound of TUN. MARCHESANO switches naturally from Louis Sclavis' chamber jazz band to orchestral classical music. Although both live in the same city, Turin, the two had never met on stage before this album , not even for a jam sessions. However, a fleeting meeting at the Café des Arts club dates back to many years ago, when the two musicians decided that sooner or later they would have to play together, intrigued by their respective stylistic differences. Finally, in 2021, they decided that the times were ripe and begun to rehears some original compositions. In early spring 2022 they entered in Studio in Torino to record the set of songs that is their first album Mizu produced by Felmay records.
