An island with two very different sides – one tied to its traditions, in their more or less modern forms, and one influenced by the posh villas of Costa Smeralda, with its parties full of celebrities. An island with a strong linguistc identity, Sardinian being less a dialect than a language. Sardinian music, both for choir (a tenores o a concordu) and instrumental is easily recognizable for its tonal and harmonic characteristics. But what is the state of the art of the island's music? Who are its interpreters? The new chapter in the Tribù Italiche series is going to answer to these questions: among the artists selected there are real virtuosos of their instruments, as Bruno Camedda on accordion, Luigi Lai on launeddas, and also Albeto Cabiddu on kalimba. There are also some special projects, which combine local harmonies with jazz language and structures: the ever present Paolo Fresu features with Sonos 'e memoria, jumping between afro-american notes and cinema, while saxophonist Enzo Favata plays with the Sardinian typical intercalary (Ajò). The feminine side of the island, whose musical world is still largely male-dominated, is brilliantly represented by the Actores Alidos, who are veterans in exploring the a tenores chant, while Clara Murtas collaborates with maestro Ennio Morricone for a moving and personal version of Ave Maria.
