Doctor 3 (pianist Danilo Rea, bassist Enzo Pietropaoli and drummer Fabrizio Sferra) is one of the most popular groups in the Italian jazz scene. The group started out in 1997 and recorded eight albums between 1998 and 2007, winning many awards (Top Jazz Best Italian Album in 1998, Top Jazz Best Italian Group in 1999, 2001 and 2003). The group became well known for its bold incursions into pop/rock repertoire, including older pieces from the American and Italian songbooks. In 2009 Doctor 3 split and the three musicians went on to other projects. Now the trio has just released a new album to celebrate its reunion.
