Saint Patrick's night, a time for Irish musical celebrations, and there are few better ways of doing so than by combining the Ulster Orchestra and seminal Celtic rock band Horslips. Rock and reels on night of true magic. The orchestra is nothing if not versatile. Its classical discipline merged perfectly with the raw energy of the veteran Horslips line-up featuring Eamon Carr, Barry Devlin, Johnny Fean, Jim Lockhart, Charles O'Connor and guest drummer Paul McAteer. The band’s iconic fantasia on My Lagan Love was riveting as was Dusk and Sword Of Light, as well as Setanta. For Horslips fans this must have been a fabulous evening, even for non-fans it was excellent. But the concert was a tribute to BBC Northern Ireland and its skill in blending eclectic talent to celebrate the very best of Irish music on Saint Patrick's night.
Recorded live with the Ulster Orchestra on St. Patrick’s Day 2011 in the Waterfront Theatre, Belfastas part of a special BBC celebration.
