Even if reshaped into new arrangements, songs keep the popular culture dimension they originate from untouched and disclose its same moods, attitudes, values and feelings. There's love, first of all, as observed from different angles: giving joy, source of suffering or driving to infidelity. And there's marriage – a more or less successful one – and the dream of getting economically settled. And, more, there's poverty and a difficult living, there are bad habits and weaknesses, dignity and the value of a person. And so we find out that through a renovated musical language, these songs are trying to render subjects that are timeless, ever present and alive, perfectly understandable to our sensitivity.
At the end of the 90s Adelaide Negrin and Devis Longo founded a vocal quartet with the intention to present songs from Piedmont and neighboring areas, according to a musical concept that would shift towards the classical, following the previous experience with Ariondela, famous female trio at the time especially in nearby Provence, that Maria Adelaide had founded few years before. The original quartet was short-lived and the attempts to make it survive with other components were unsuccessful for the difficulties of finding singers with preparation, mindset and vocal style suited to the result that the two wanted. So the whole idea became «the project in the drawer» and sank into a kind of lethargic sleep. Shortly after putting in the drawer their dream Adelaide and Devis meet Giulia Adder, which thanks to the great passion for singing and innate musicality was involved in a short lived project of a vocal trio. Finally in 2008 thanks to the encounter with Teresa Nesci and Luciano Fava, classical music singers, lively and curious, to their desire to be involved in the «project in the drawer» and to the help of Vincenzo Vigo, the group was re-born. The repertoire has expanded with new songs and some originals and the project was finally able to take the take life. QUINTETTO NIGRA was born and Sonno Fortunato (Lucky Sleep) is its first recording, awakening ten years after, as the Princesses wakes up after the love kiss of the Prince.
