The standard model consists of movable bridges and strings that are plucked with the fingers of his right hand. The size zheng ranging from 120 to 170 cm in length, the jumpers are mobile and are moved to vary the tuning of the instrument. The strings that were originally silk, today are more commonly made of steel and nylon. From the middle of the twentieth century began to make tools with 18, 21 and 25 strings, but the 21-string version remains the most commonly used. The open strings are tuned in pentatonic scale semitonal, so the 21-string instrument has four full octaves.
