Roberto Tombesi is one of the historical protagonists of Italian folk revival and founded the historic ensemble Calicanto, contributing internationally to spread and revitalize the music of Venetian tradition and northern Adriatic. This is his first solo album entirely dedicated to melodeon and the Venetian traditional dances collected and disseminated in a lifetime of research and concerts. 32 traditional dances, from Dolomites to Venice lagoon areas, which are here arranged and returned to the art of dancing and listening enjoyment with refined and elegant simplicity.
Roberto Tombesi is one of the historic protagonists of Italian folk revival.
Architect, ethnomusicologist, teacher, melodeon player, multi-instrumentalist and singer, in 1981, with his brother Giancarlo, he founded the historic group Calicanto, internationally promoting the diffusion and revitalization of Venetian and northern Adriatic traditional music.
He has published several CDs and books and has been invited to the most important international festivals among which the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington in 2002 directed by Yo Yo Ma.
He is the author, promoter and artistic director of numerous festivals, projects and cultural events (among which the Festival Ande Bali e Cante in Rovigo and the Orchestra Popolare delle Dolomiti) and has recently published the CD IN ‘STA VIA, totally dedicated to the melodeon and to traditional Venetian dances, collected and diffused in a life of research and concerts.
With this project Roberto is again on the road with a new work under his name, but accompanied by about ten talented musicians; among them his friends CALICANTO (his son Alessandro in particular has collaborated on the artistic direction and on the mixing), who, on this occasion, let him go ahead in the exploration and in the analysis of the repertoire and in the synthesis of ethnomusical research.
The CD IN ‘STA VIA summarizes a personal and organic artistic journey characterized by a constant attention to the roots of tradition and a creative tension towards the present.
The CD consists of 32 dances collected in several years of research in the areas of the Dolomites and the lagoon, dances that are here arranged and given back to the dancing enjoyment and to the listening with refined and elegant sobriety.
