An European meeting between bagpipes of various forms in the name of creative research and re-interpretation of traditionals. An European "drone" map that starts from Italy and search connections into Galicia, British Isles and France.
“ In our project the protagonist is the bagpipe (zampogna in Southern Italy), a musical instrument with a long tradition and of great relevance that has resisted the transformation of the Italian pastoral world where it was widespread. Nowadays it is proposed as a suitable instrument for all types of music, traditional and experimental. In Fiumerapido our original compositions are joined with traditional tunes and some of the European Balfolk standards following the main conductive row: sacred music and music for dance.”
Marco Tomassi
Starting from a bagpipe model present in the European courts since the Seventeenth Century (called Sordellina), Marco Tomassi, Marco Iamele and Giorgio Pinai have woven a research through old and new repertoire for various sort of bagpipes. The project is a truly European map that connects the Southern and Northern Italy with Galicia, the British Isles and France. And from these countries come eclectic guests : French maestro Eric Montbel, the Galician Susana Seivane and David Shepherd - English violinist in Blowzabella.
Early and new music, local and European, sacred and secular, classical and popular : a musical reality in transformation but closely linked to those who, in the years and centuries, have built and played these instruments in Italy and in European countries.
