"I discovered Comacchio with its breathtaking views, its ancient history, its special people, who give life to an extraordinary dialect full of sound suggestions that come from many parts of the Mediterranean, in a meeting that took place in 2016 and wanted by the Municipal Administration that had recently undertaken a collaboration activity with the Ravenna Festival".
These are the words of Ambrogio Sparagna that introduce a recording work born after some live shows, with the choir of the Cantori di Comacchio flanked by Sparagna and some soloists of the Orchestra Popolare Italiana of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. The dialect of Comacchio and the local culture give voice to a repertoire of traditional songs (narrative, questua, nursery rhymes, poems, lullabies, Advent songs) supported by the music composed ad hoc by Sparagna, which project the popular texts in a sound context sensitive to the tradition of central-southern Italy. From this encounter springs a new awareness of its cultural identity: the "language" of Comacchio finds in these songs – historically performed by the choir without instrumental accompaniment – a wider frontier, where rhythms and musical arrangements belonging to other areas of the peninsula converge on the Po delta, in an original and meaningful conency.
The videoclip of the song "Aran Buten" briefly tells the experience of rehearsals and recordings and shows some splendid images of the Comacchiesi valleys visually commenting on one of the most famous nursery rhymes of the traditional lagoon repertoire that in Sparagna's arrangement turns into a real work song to be performed between eels and tarante.
