A collection of songs and tunes from the Siberian steppes presented by SHU-DE, one of the best bands performing traditional Tuvan music. In the last years the discovery of traditional music from Tuva, along with the one of other traditional cultures (such as pygmies, Australian Aborigine, ..) has been used by some of the best and more active western bands.
The typical vocal technique of this Siberian culture, close to those of Tibetans or Mongolians, but also to the a tenores singing from Sardinia, made easy to recognise the sounds of Tuva. The throat singing technique, that permits to produce very clear harmonics, both on the high and on the low range, has been improved by the Tuvan people in the past centuries to reach magic and astonishing results. SHU-DE are today among the performers of these techniques that they have incorporated in their songs alternating with instrumental tunes played on the typical instrumental of their music: khomus (Jew's harp) and igil (a two strings bowed violin).
Founded in 1992 by Alexej Shoigu, Boris Salchak and Nadezna Shoigu, SHU-DE performs traditional music from Tuva. The same year the group was invited to take part to a festival in Wales. Following the big success the group also performed at the Womad in Reading and recorded for the "Real World" series, directed by Peter Gabriel. More recently joined Mongun-ool Ondar and Oleg Kuulur, two among the best traditional singers in Tuva joined the group. The group has performed in many important World Music Festivals and toured Europe and America.
