In the entire catalogue of Ictus Record this title is, probably, the closest to the typical forms of jazz, also in the choice of the instrumentation: sax, bass and percussion. Recorded live in Udine in 1976, at the end of a long tour in Italy of the Trio, the CD presents one of the best music played by the three musicians. The music, based on some of the classic themes of the Steve Lacy's repertory, is very fluid and lyric. The drums is tied to the classic forms of the jazz rhythm but never predictable and gives a very strong anchorage to the music of the trio. Kent Carter, in those years a usual partner of Steve Lacy blends the melodic lines of the soloist with the drums rhythm. Steve Lacy since his first recordings with Cecil Taylor and the Gil Evans Orchestra and Thru all his carrier has being always able to surprise his fans for his ability to adapt to the various different musical context he afforded. Without ever losing his individuality and strong musical language. This CD offer another proof of his skilfulness and his poetry giving new life to some compositions that can today be considered almost classics.
