Recorded live at St. John's Smith Square, London, August 1995. Ustad Rashid Khan was once described by Pandit Bhimsen Joshi as "assurance for the future of Indian vocal music". And as such has rapidly established himself as one of India's leading exponents of vocal music. Born in 1966, he hails from a family steeped in musical history and is himself a graduate of the famous Sangeet Research Academy (SRA) in Kolkata (Calcutta), an academy set up to harness the talent of youth in a traditional environment. Having made his debut performance at the age of 11, he has never looked back since. In this album, he is accompanied by fellow students from SRA, Anand Gopal Bandopadhyay on tabla and Jyoti Goho on harmonium. Here he performs raga Marwa and Bhupali. Both evening ragas, Marwa is a more thoughtful yet restless item which is followed by the majestic Bhupali.
