This rare duet of equal vocal and instrumental performances by two of the top most ranking artists from India was altogether far more rewarding because this was a long standing desire by Amjad Ali Khan to record an album capturing the essence of Thumri singing. Thumris are light classical songs with either a romantic or devotional nature and although the project was conceived in 1997 it did not come to fruition until 2004. To cement the musical bond between Amjad and Girija, Girija Devi tied a Rakhee (sacred thread) to Amjad's wrist, in recognition of the Indian tradition whereby a sister ties a sacred thread to her brother's wrist.
