Britain’s acclaimed Indian brass band team up with leading Pakistani singer to plunder Bollywood for some of the greatest pop songs in the history of the world.
For their 4th CD, the BOLLYWOOD BRASS BAND is joined by singer RAFAQAT ALI KHAN and a string section to pay tribute to 60 years of Indian and Pakistani film soundtracks. RAFAQAT ALI KHAN is the nephew of Pakistan’s greatest classical singer, Salamat Ali Khan. He brings his classical heritage and to film soundtracks and popular music, while staying true to his Sufi soul. Rafaqat has recently been performing for the UN in New York with Abida Parveen, and recording with UK Asian crossover mastermind, Rishi Rich. In the world of the BOLLYWOOD BRASS BAND, the sound of Indian movies meets wedding brass band music and Indian pop. The range of instrumentation is audacious: saxes, trumpets, trombones, flute, sousaphone, dhol, dholak, tabla, drumkit, surdo, percussion. The added soundscape of samples and a string section join the brass to provide a glowing setting for the golden voice of RAFAQAT ALI KHAN. The BOLLYWOOD BRASS BAND includes some of London’s most versatile musicians, also to be heard with bands including Transglobal Underground and The Dhol Foundation. For Chaiyya Chaiyya, the band and RAFAQAT ALI KHAN present a varied selection of Bollywood classics from the 1950s to the present day.
