Considered by many the most important singer of the musical history of Argentina, Mercedes Sosa has released 70 albums over the course of a memorable career that spanned more than 50 years. Founding member and one of the greatest exponents of the movement Nueva Cancion, Mercedes Sosa had a contralto voice with superb depth and beauty of which were really to be considered exceptional. Her interpretations of icons such as Atahualpa Yupanqui, Violeta Parra compositions helped to introduce the music of South America around the world. Her political positions got her the definition of '"voice of the silent majority" and led to a long exile during the military dictatorship, in the darkest years of Argentina’s history. After a decade of exile she made triumphant return to her homeland in 1982 and published a series of very successful albums that followed, several world tours, Grammy Awards and prestigious international awards. The double CD "La Negra - The Definitive Collection" offers a wonderful selection of 40 tracks with his greatest hits ranging from Tango, Cuban Nueva Trova, Brazilian Bossa Nova and other folk influences.
