The volume is dedicated to five young American composers. It is this country that started the musical movement, Minimalism, that in different forms is pervading the work of most of the contemporary composers. And it is from the USA that is coming the new shape of the figure of the composer after ten years when the ÇnewÈ was carried on by the improvisers.
The tracks, all unissued or very rare and in new versions, are divided on the two volumes for their sound and instrumentation.
On Volume 1, electronics, are presented composition with an wide use of more technological instruments. You will know, in this way, the samplers of Carl Stone, with his reworking of the Tokyo daily noise, and of Nicolas Collins with his attempt to reinvent "dance music". Kyle Gann leads us in a Ghost Town where toys, or their sounds, took over in an mysterious and dark atmosphere. With Autorequiem Mikel Rouse carries on his research in the "counterpoint" style, already presented in his last Cd ( M. Rouse - Living Inside Design NewTone Records - nt 6724). Ben Neill (who also co-curated the anthology) with his mutantrumpet closes the first Cd with a solo piece rich of Ambient /Trance sounds along the most advanced lines of these musical genres.
