Recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall, London, 27th February 2005. This recording was made at the first Vilayat Khan memorial concert in London and for Shujaat Khan, this performance of Raga Shyam Kalyan brings back memories of his father and guru, Ustad Vilayat Khan. Grammy nominated Shujaat Khan needs no further introduction, having established himself as one part of the famous Ghazal duet with Kayhan Kalhor, he has gone on to become a popular name in world music circles. He started to play the sitar at the tender age of 3 only to give his first public performance at 6. He is accompanied by Shankar Debnath and Arunangshu Chaudhury on tabla. Raga Shyam Kalyan, is an evening raga, which in this concert was being performed in tribute to Ustad Vilayat Khan. In fact far from being a sombre raga, this raga is playful and sensuous in quality. It is in fact a beautiful and profound raga.
