In 2007 in Genoa took shape a new musical project with strong social contents: LA BANDA DI PIAZZA CARICAMENTO. An open ensemble which combines different musical styles picking up the energy of young second generation immigrants, the language of their traditions, melting slangs and urban rhythms. LA BANDA DI PIAZZA CARICAMENTO began as artistic symbol of coexistence and non-violence, creativity and cultural metamorphosis becoming the consecration of Genoa as a multiethnic town.
The new album Il Sesto Continente shows a new repertory and a partially renewed line-up : Yana Oder (Tagikistan), Parveen Khan Rajasthan / India), Lorraine Mc Cauley (Ireland), Medard Sossa (Benin) on vocals. David Carrol (Brasil) on guitar and Cristiano Do Rosario (Capo Verde) on bass. Kasun Marashina (Sri Lanka) on drums, Olmo Manzano (Italy/Mexico) on congas, marimba, timbales and guiro, Bassirou Sarr (Senegal) on tama and djembee, Ali Rahmani (Iran) on tombak. The new record also includes the cover of Rock The Casbah, legendary song by The Clash and the track Ninna nanna per Yanuska sung by extraordinary vocalist Antonella Ruggiero. Not exactly world music, but music that comes from worlds that constantly come and go.

Sesto Continente (Sixth Continent)is the ideal land, that every migrant or traveler’s dreams.Theplace of the meeting with nature, traditions, creativity and emotions. The music is generated by the meeting between strangers and residents creativity without a definite music style. Not world music, but music from worlds coming and going in a continuous movement.

Conceived and directed by Davide Ferrari and produced by Echo Art, is primarily aimed to young people under 30. The repertoire is original partly inspired by the musical cultures of each member. Among the various activities of the group in the years we count; the CD Babel Sound (2008), awarded by Amnesty International as best album in Italy dedicated to immigrant’s rights and Nu Town (2010) featuring Il GRUPPO SPONTANEOTRALLALLERO with whom they arranged DOLCENERA (a Fabrizio De André hit). Tour with concerts in Italy, France, Croatia, Switzerland and Bosnia with musical and social projects in schools and jailhouses.Collaborations in concerts with Celia Mara (Brazil), the Gnawa Bambara (Sufi brotherhood from Morocco) and with one of the most important Italian singers, Antonella Ruggiero with whom in 2010 conceived the live project Sconfinando (over the borders). The digital release Rock the Casbah (2013) cover of the legendary song by the Clash, emphasize the original definition of etnopunk associated with the energy of the band’s live shows. In 2014 with a renewed ensemble and a new repertoire the band releases the CD Il Sesto Continente. With the voice of the ensemble Yana Oder from Tajikistan and Parveen Khan from Rajasthan (India), the new entry Lorraine Mc Cauley from Ireland and Medard Khan from Benin.
