In 1996 seven musicians from the different worlds ("dos mundos") of Latin America and Europe and all from completely different backgrounds joined forces in Berlin. MARIACHI DOS MUNDOS define the appealing sounds of the Mexican Mariachi in a new way: they play the happy familiar themes of Mexican music side by side with the melancholy sounds of Cuban boleros, using classical string arrangements along with wild interludes from the brass section. This creates a fascinating mixture of dance rhythms and musical virtuosity with just a pinch of self irony. Taking traditional songs as their starting point (Mexican corridos and polkas as well as Cuban son), these musicians extend their musical repertoire with their own arrangements of Latin American classics and Rock songs. All these are presented in their new CD plus three original compositions of their own. Highlights: The Hendrix classic "Hey Joe", (with a new Spanish text), their own jubilant composition "El Sentimiento Es El Que Manda", played with great gusto, and the Buena Vista Bolero "Dos Gardenias" with its striking arrangement for strings and breathtaking flugelhorn solo.
