It's not often that music artists also concern themselves with the technical processes that permit the diffusion of their music. ANTONIO PAOLO PIZZIMENTI is one such artist. Musician, composer, sound engineer and music and multimedia producer, PIZZIMENTI as well as collaborating with numerous recording artists has also worked extensively in the fields of TV, radio, theatre, soundtracks and advertising. As well as being a sound engineer for stars like Eugenio Finardi, Aida Cooper, Elio e le Storie tese, Garbo, The Memphis Horns, Mimmo Locasciulli, Greg Cohen (Tom Waits Band), Gino Paoli, Donatella Rettore, Marco Carena and many more, he has also toured both in Italy and other parts of the World with artists such as The Manhattan Transfer, Gilberto Gill, Miriam Makeba, Milton Nascimento and Caetano Veloso, while as a musician he has played on records by Roberto Vecchioni, Aeroplani Italiani, Rudy Marra, Banda Osiris and Tony e i Volumi (PIZZIMENTI's official band whose albums he also produces. Highly appreciated has been PIZZIMENTI's work for theatre. As well as composing the music for the show Uccelli (cd NewTone/Felmay, 1996) based on the work of Aristophanes and directed by Gabriele Vacis he has worked with Banda Osiris and written numerous soundtracks for the likes of Settimo Theatre, Kismet Theatre and the French group ZUR.
Pizzimenti's new album is a collection of a dozen such tracks featuring a number of pieces he wrote for the Settimo Theatre production Codice Atlantico. Even in the absence of the images and gestures for which it was created, the music still sounds fresh and inspired, combining a multitude of styles and influences that PIZZIMENTI's brilliant and highly original arrangements blend into a perfect whole. What emerges is a music that is anything but fragmentary, a music that captivates from the word go and transports us to far-off places, almost as in a dream. The music's immediacy in no way detracts from its creative density. Though extremely pleasant to the ear the depth of PIZZIMENTI's compositions is undeniable. What's more, the way in which PIZZIMENTI reworks Pachebel's celebrated Canon in D is proof of his all-round musical talent.
