Sarangi in the years has lost part of its popularity. The musicians too are no longer interested in it, mainly because its technique is extremely difficult, someone even says it’s the most difficult instrument to play in the world.

We find this chordophone in North India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the particular model used in Indian classic music is built with a harmonic wood case and a short squat neck on which three main strings are bowed while many ones vibrate with a peculiar resonance.
Originally it was used to accompany singing but, later, also thanks to great musicians such as Bundu Khan( 1880-1955 ), Ram Narayan (1927) and Sultan Khan, gradually became a solo instrument. With this CD we introduce a young artist who has all the necessary qualities to continue the tradition of these greats masters: USTAD MURAD ALI KHAN.
Born in Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh ), Murad Ali khan belong to an important family of sarangi artists. Under his grandfather’s and his father’s guidance he strengthen, through a strict and binding apprenticeship, his love for this instrument. Besides a great career in his country, with prizes and recognitions, MURAD ALI KHAN performed in many festivals and exhibitions all over the world, and he collaborated with artists who belonged to other musical areas.
In Feelings of the heart Murad starts the programme with the wonderful raga Behag, suffused with romantic sonority and quicker and more vibrant sounds, rich of unexpected nuances. Murad Ali Khan emphasizes, in this piece, his ability to let the instrument “sing” and his inborn predisposition to bend it meekly.
The second (Raga Jog) and the third piece (a Bhajan in Mishra Khamaj) of the record are pervaded with beautiful melodies on a royal progression.
The particular sound of sarangi finds in this record of MURAD ALI KHAN a new vital lymph and the fascinating musical tradition comes till us with all its intact refinement.
