After 10 years from his death, De Andrè myth is stronger than ever. Purely for his love, many artists still considering him alive and always part of his legacy, have celebrated his music in this tenth anniversary.
NUVOLEINCANTO – which is not only a band but a show in itself born to remember the heroes of De Andrè, directed by Lucio Diana with Michele Di Mauro narrating voice – is rightly among the artists homageing the late artist with a recording that is an original evocative path entitled Non per un Dio (ma nemmeno per un gioco) Not for a God (neither for a game). The band is formed by musicians that can boast a wide range of artistic experiences: Fabrizio Cotto (guitar and vocals), Gigi Venegoni (guitars), Piero Mortara (accordeon and piano), Angelo Ieva (bass) and Fabrizio Gnan (percussions). Most of the songs revisited by the group are taken from De Andrè’s albums Non al denaro, non all’amore né al cielo (1971) and Fabrizio De André (Indiano) (1981). The original melodies have been fully respected yet the final version can be enjoyed as pleasantly new. Fabrizio Cotto explains personally the recording: “We built a pathway according to his (De Andrè’s) most treasured themes: love, war and religion. We wrote a rock version, with new rhythms and arrangements closer to our style, of many songs belonging to the production of De Andrè music antecedent of the ethnic wave of Crêuza de mä (“Sistema Musica”, n. 7, 2009). Our version of La canzone dell’amore perduto has a touch of pop ballad, Franziska changes his tones and south American allusions colour it, La città vecchia slows down along the pure French charme of a bandoneon, Geordie transmutes its original medieval character into an acoustic blues rich in warm and comforting tonalities. Near to the end of the recording, an articulated classical piano intro, ignites a splendid Bocca di Rosa cover.”
Essential yet far from simplicity, very close to De Andrè restless nature, extremely well edited, Non per un Dio (ma nemmeno per gioco) set itself as a model for any artist wanting to re interpret the work of the great Genoa songwriter.
