Brian McNeill’s professional career spans more than three decades and he is now acknowledged as one of Scotland’s great musical forces. In 1969 he formed Battlefield Band, which became one of Scotland’s best known ensembles. Brian McNeill plays fiddle, octave fiddle, guitar, mandocello, bouzouki, viola, mandolin, cittern, concertina, bass and hurdy gurdy and have established him as one of Scotland’s leading songwriters. In 1990 Brian left the Battlefield Band to concentrate more on writing and solo projects. The release of ‘The Baltic Tae Byzantium’ was ‘work in progress’ for a considerable time but the end result justifies the time and effort spent.
