Novas Nodas by the young, punchy and skilled diatonic button accordion player Ivan Pili, is the first album of the new Lumeras collection of S’ardmusic label.
In “Novas Nodas” Ivan Pili recovers ritual and traditional dancing, respecting the musical structures referable to the most authentic traditional repertory, but also introducing new sounds and musical phrases, perfectly blend with the pre-existent repertory.
The album is a charming and uncommon journey in the vivid Sardinian traditional world, and it is result of an intense research held on for over a year by Ivan Pili in Sardinia and abroad (Spain, Holland, Belgium, Finland, Brasil). The tradition of accompanying old dancing with the accordion is here brought back to light thanks to the stories vividly told by the old people that emigrated abroad for a better life, and revisited with a modern taste by Ivan Pili.
Novas Nodas by the young, punchy and skilled diatonic button accordion player Ivan Pili, is the first album of the new Lumeras collection of S’ardmusic label. An original record production devoted to the extraordinary Sardinian and Mediterranean musical tradition. Tradition that, keeping its long-term reference points (lumeras, exactly) untouched and unaffected, finds in those rich sources new forms and new cultural expressions to release new energy and create contemporary expressions.

With “su durdurinu” and “sa vardeina”, interpreted till now only by the masculine voices during the Oliena dancing and the archaic polyphony of the “cantu a tenore” in Orgosolo dancing, Ivan Pili opens up a new chapter of the Sardinian traditional music with his accordion. A lot of stuff has been recovered from archives, watched and listened to, revisited with the creative touch of this young uncommon artist, that avoids any cliché and is always ready to undertake new experiences and face new challenges.
